From start to finish, our process is natural and hands-on. Fresh, open air and plenty of room to roam are two early ingredients in our yak milk chews. No chemicals or preservatives are added to the naturally-occurring Himalayan yak milk.
BUTTER IS REMOVED AND BUTTERMILK IS EXTRACTED
Once they’ve collected the organic yak milk, experienced farmers use a traditional, centuries-old method to extract the butter, leaving them with pure, low-fat buttermilk that will become the yak milk chews. The extracted butter isn’t wasted, it is reserved to turn into ghee.
BUTTERMILK IS BOILED AND THICKENED
The Himalayan yak buttermilk is rich in vitamins, minerals, and probiotics. It’s the perfect base for delicious and healthy yak milk chews. Boiling the buttermilk is an age-old process that requires precise heat in order to thicken the liquid.
MILK PROTEIN IS COAGULATED AND STRAINED
The thickened liquid is strained and lactose is removed along with the whey protein. Yak milk cheese curds are separated as farmers move a step closer to finishing their batch of yak milk chews.
CHEESE IS PRESSED AND SHAPED IN JUTE CLOTH
Experienced farmers complete every stage by hand without help from machines or modern technology. The raw protein is pressed in organic jute cloth to shape the cheese slabs into the yak milk chew form.
CHEESE BLOCKS ARE CUT, DRIED AND AGED
The cheese slabs are cut into rectangular strips and then laid out to dry until the aging process is complete. The individual chews are cut into varying sizes in order to create yak milk dog chews for pups of all sizes.
HARD CHEESE IS BRINED, CLEANED AND INSPECTED
Hardened solid yak milk cheese blocks are dipped into a handmade salt solution (another age-old recipe), which makes the chews last longer without using any preservatives. After they’ve been dipped, the all-natural dog chews are thoroughly cleaned and inspected for any flaws.
CHEWS ARE DRIED, SORTED AND READY TO BE PACKED
The yak milk dog chews are dried again for good measure before being sorted into groupings of the different sizes. They’re now ready to be packed up and shipped off, straight to your door for your canine family members to enjoy.
